ABSTRACT

The choice of cultivars adapted to different regions and the determination of the best sowing dates are indispensable tools for crop development. This allows the installation of the crop in times favorable to its development, as well as cultivars that manage to reach their maximum yield potential. The objective of this study was to determine the best sowing dates and the cultivars that can adapt to the low-altitude Cerrado region and have the best development and yield efficiency. The experiment was conducted on a typical clayey dystrophic Red Latosol soil. The experimental design was in randomized blocks in a factorial scheme, comprised by four sowing dates during the spring/summer season (October, November, December, and February) and in each sowing date there were eight upland rice cultivars (BRS Esmeralda, ANa 6005, ANa 5015, IPR 117, IAC 203, IAC 500, ANa 7211 and BRSGO Serra Dourada) with four replicates. Sowing in October and November benefited the aerial dry mass and the spikelets fertility however, sowing in November provided higher plant height, which caused lodging in plants. Sowing in December caused the incidence of scald, mainly affecting the cultivar ANa 7211. For all cultivars, sowing in October favored the yield efficiency of upland rice in the low-altitude Cerrado, followed by sowing in November. The cultivars which demonstrated higher yield efficiency in the conditions of the region were BRS Esmeralda and ANa 5015.

ABSTRACT

Coffee is the most appreciated beverage in worldwide; Brazil is the largest producer and exporter of this commodity. Organochlorine endosulfan was banned from the country in 2013 due to its teratogenic agent-related features. Since then, coffee plantations have experienced increased Hypothenemus hampei infestation rates. The aim of the current study is to assess variations in the rates of Coffea arabica fruits brocaded by H. hampei after the application of entomopathogenic fungal species Beauveria bassiana IBCB66. Experiments were carried out with 'Catuaí' and 'Mundo Novo' cultivars between 2018 and 2020, during the borer transit period. Three experiments were carried out based on the application of the aforementioned fungal species on the investigated coffee plant species, both by spraying and sprinkling, at 30-day intervals; 10 fruits were collected per face of each useful plant in each repetition. The experiment has followed a randomized blocks design with five treatments, including the control, and five repetitions, each. Beauveria bassiana Ecobass (IBCB66) wettable powder spray, at the concentration of 2 × 1013·ha1, was used in experiments I and II. On the other hand, the mix used in experiment III was prepared with blastospores at concentration of 5 × 1012·ha1 blastospores + 0.1% Silwet. The sprinkling process in all three experiments has used dry aerial conidia at concentration of 2 × 1013·ha1. Collected data were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA), which was followed by Fisher's test at 5% probability level, in the SISVAR software. More than 35,000 fruits were assessed. In addition to variations between experiments, results have evidenced that the rate of brocaded fruits remained high.

ABSTRACT

Objective. Due to the importance of controlling ectoparasites, associated with the necessity of technical knowledge on the safety of topical treatment with organophosphates, pyrethroids and piperonyl butoxide to the animal organism, this bioassay was carried out to evaluate the clinical safety of the association of dichlorvos (45%) + cypermethrin (5%) + piperonyl butoxide (25%) administered by spray on the skin of cattle, through the study of clinical parameters, biochemical, haematological and behavioral changes. Materials and methods. Sixteen crossbred animals with a mean age of 18 months, males and females grouped into two treatments with eight animals each: T1 (1:800 v/v) and T2 (1:200 v/v). Were collected blood samples at six different times: before treatment (BT), 24, 48, 72, 96 and 192 hours post treatment (HPT). Results. The antiparasitic association administered by spray on the skin did not result in changes in the enzymatic activity of ALT, AST, GGT and ALP, as well as in serum albumin, triglycerides, cholesterol, urea and creatinine, demonstrating the safety of this antiparasitic compound for maintaining hepatic and renal functionality. The erythrocyte, leukocyte and platelet studies showed no changes caused by treatments, and no clinical signs and behavioral changes were observed after treatment. Conclusions. These findings demonstrated good safety margin for spray treatment on the skin with this antiparasitic compound, even when administered at a dilution of 1:200 v/v, which is four times the dose recommended for ectoparasite control.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to evaluate the agronomic efficiency and grain quality of rice cultivars as a function of nitrogen application in upland conditions with supplemental sprinkler irrigation. The experiment was carried out in 2012/13 at Jaboticabal-SP on a randomized block and split plots design with four replications. The plots were composed of twelve rice cultivars (BRS Aroma, BRS Monarca, BRS Primavera, BRS Sertaneja, BRSMG Curinga, Caiapó, CIRAD 141, Guarani, IAC 165, IAC 201, IAC 202, and IAC 25), and two levels of nitrogen application (0 and 100 kg of N ha-1) in topdress at the R1 stage (panicle differentiation) as subplots. The N application intensifies the degree of lodging, mainly at Caiapó, Guarani, IAC 165, IAC 201 and IAC 25 cultivars. The N application affects the number of sterile spikelets per panicle, mainly in CIRAD 141, BRS Sertaneja, IAC 202, and BRS Aroma cultivars. Caiapó cultivar shows higher grain yield and agronomic efficiency in function of N application, followed by BRS Monarca, BRSMG Curinga, IAC 165, and IAC 202. Although Caiapó, CIRAD 141, Guarani, IAC 165, IAC 202, and IAC 25 cultivars present better results, all the others cultivars also present acceptable values of milling yield, without N application effects. The grain protein content in rice is increased by the N topdressing application.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: calcium is an essential nutrient required in substantial amounts, but many diets are deficient in calcium making supplementation necessary or desirable. On the other hand, spray drying is an important technology used in the pharmaceutical industry. In this process the end-product must comply with precise quality standards. Objective: To evaluate the spray drying of calcium and magnesium citrate and to make comparison with the traditional method of drying. Methods: calcium and magnesium citrate salt was obtained at bench scale from dolomite and suspended in water in a proportion 1:10 (w/v) and spray-dried. The final batches were evaluated by chemical and technological analysis methods Results: the results showed that calcium, magnesium, citric acid and total ash content have similar concentrations regardless of the used drying method. Residual moisture content of the dried product by spray drying method was higher than that of the dried sample by traditional method. Nevertheless, all the results were below the maximum allowable limit. The physical properties of the samples for each drying method were similar except for density because the spray-dried samples showed values lower than those of traditionally dried samples(AU)

ABSTRACT

Physiological quality of rice seeds may be influenced by water deficiency at seed development and filling stages, which is often reported in upland cropping system. This study had the objective of evaluating the effects of sprinkler irrigation system on the improvement of physiological quality of rice seeds produced under upland conditions. Two experiments were carried out in Selvíria-MS, Brazil, Ilha Solteira College of Engineering, UNESP, in 1994/1995 and 1995/1996, with the upland rice cultivars 'IAC 201' and 'Carajás'. In both years, rice plants were grown under rainfed and sprinkler-irrigation conditions. Based on the rice crop coefficient (Kc), the following water levels were obtained: L1: 0.5 times the Kc, L2: Kc, L3: 1.5 times the Kc, L4: Kc = 1.95. Weight, germination and vigor of rice seeds were evaluated right after harvest. The experimental design was the completely randomized with four replications. Data was submitted to analysis of variance and means were compared by Tukey's test (P≤0.05) separately for each cultivar. It was concluded that levels of water varying from 0.5 to 1.5 times the rice crop coefficient, supplied through sprinkler-irrigation system, provide better conditions to produce rice seeds of upland cultivars with higher physiological quality.

ABSTRACT

The carrot stands out among the vegetables that more expanded, however, like must vegetables, their development is influenced by soil moisture conditions and even in humid regions water deficiency is a limiting factor in productivity and quality of roots.
